  • Over 3,600 business scam reports were submitted to BBB Scam Tracker since 2022.

  • Scam types generally fall into three categories:

  • Stolen Information

  • Impostors

  • Fake Services

  • Most of these scams can be prevented through employee training, cybersecurity measures and careful verification processes.

Red flags to watch for
  • Unsolicited invoices or payment requests

  • Urgent or suspicious emails, even from “known” vendors

  • Demands for gift card, wire or pre-paid debit card payments

  • Threats about licenses, trademarks or domain expirations

How to stay protected
  • Train employees to recognize scams

  • Verify invoices, payments and vendor contact details

  • Avoid non-traceable payment methods

  • Use multifactor authentication and keep cybersecurity up to date
